Critical Care or Intensive Care is a medical specialty that serves patients who have life-threatening conditions or are at risk of developing them. Such patients may require support due to blood pressure fluctuations, airway or respiratory compromise, acute renal failure, cardiac arrhythmias, or the cumulative effects of multiple organ failure, more commonly referred to as Multi-Organ-Dysfunction-Syndrome (MODS). Patients needing intensive or invasive monitoring, such as in the crucial hours after major surgery or patients considered too unstable to transfer to a less intensively monitored unit, may also be placed in Intensive Care Units (ICU). The critical care department at Aster MIMS Kottakkal is equipped with all ultra-modern facilities including state-of-art ventilators. The MICU also follows strict infection control protocols and is equipped with advanced negative pressure room.
