When a patient is advised by the physician to get admitted after consultation, the physician will fill the respective form and sendpatients to the admission counter along with the OPD staff. The customer service executive will explain/counsel about the accommodation facilities available in the hospital and the approximate cost of proposedplan of care. The patient can choose the facility based on their requirements and budget. After completing the admission formalities she/he is directed to the appropriate department along with the nursing assistant/ hospital attendants so that the treatment process can begin.
When a patient is brought in an emergency or critical condition the patient will be taken to the emergency department and provided with all the urgent care the patient requires. During this time the by stander is advised to complete the registration procedures. In case the patient is alone, the emergency department staff will complete the registration formalities. If the patient needs to be admitted the same formalities will be followed. The GRD executive will explain/counsel about the accommodation facilities available in the hospital and the approximate cost of proposed plan of care. The patient can choose the facility as per their requirement and budget. After completing the admission formalities she/he is directed to the appropriate department along with the nursing assistant/ hospital attendants to begin the treatment process.
Whenever a foreign national is admitted, a duly completed online C Form is submitted (Kerala Tourism Dept) within 24 hours of admission. Medical visa is required for IP admission. In case the foreign national is in India on a tourist visa, it needs to be converted to medical visa within 24 hours.
When a patient is brought to the emergency in a critical condition without sufficient demographic details the following steps must be carried out:
The details of the person who brought the unknown patient to thehospital are recorded, like name, address, mobile phone number, PC no (in case of POLICE) and the place from where he/she has picked up the unknown.
The patient/ patients are given unique tag numbers as “unknown-1”, “unknown - 2 , unknown -3” etc., and an Aster MIMSK ID is generated and named as unknown- 1, unknown - 2 , unknown - 3.All emergency life saving measures will be provided. Simultaneously a staff member will search for papers that may help establish the unknown patient’s identity in the patient’s belongings, in the presence of the person who has brought the unknown patient to the hospital. If they succeed in discovering the identity of the patient through searching, the staff member will proceed to inform a family member or friend of the patient. In case they are unable to establish the patient’s identity, they are bound to inform the Kottakkal Police Station about the unknown patient.Depending on the patient’s condition, he/she will be admitted to the ICU or ward, and the treatment will be continued. If the patients regains consciousness and reveals his/her identity, or if relatives who come in search of a missing person identify the patient, they can inform if they wish to continue treatment or not. In case the patient does not regain consciousness or is unable to reveal identity and nobody comes to take responsibility of the patient, the patient will continue to receive treatment, and be sent to a destitute home on completion of treatment. If the patient dies and the identity is still not established, the body will be handed over to the police.
